There is an ample amount of mineral reduction present on the citrusy and notably floral nose that also displays an abundance of Chablis character that continues onto the concentrated, powerful, intense and highly energetic palate impression while delivering stunningly good depth and length. As much as I like the Preuses and Blanchots, there is just another dimension present here and this should be remarkable once it achieves its full maturity. Bravo. Allen Meadows

The 2014 Viré-Clessé Cuvée E. J. Thevenet is showing very well, unwinding in the glass with aromas of green orchard fruit, almond paste and honeycomb that are still quite youthfully reserved. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, lively and elegantly textural, with a satiny attack, attractive purity and a suppler, more inviting profile than the blocky, super concentrated 2015 rendition, but it's also showing more reserve than the tender, inviting 2013. Though it can be enjoyed now, to my palate, the real excitement will come with a decade in the cellar, so patient readers should gravitate toward this bottling. WA

John Duval might be best known for his work with red grapes, but his Rhone-inspired white blend is no slouch. It’s lighter and fresher, finer than expected, but still delivers elements of each variety in the mesh. There’s a slickness to texture, spice nuance and a ripe fresh stone fruit profile in the mix. Wonderful balance too.

Rich with Sicilian puff pastry and cannoli crust, the 2018 Sicilia Menfi Chardonnay is an elaborate and full-bodied expression of this important white grape. The wine drives home a lasting impression of volume and opulence thanks to stone fruit, vanilla cream and baked bread. That touch of acidity is just enough to keep the wine light and jazzy in terms of mouthfeel. I also get that sweetness from Sicilian blood orange juice when it's freshly squeezed.
